Canada Advocates Global Corporate Social Responsibility Via Amman Seminar

The Business Development Center (BDC), in collaboration with the Jordanian Canadian Business Association (JOCABA) and the Embassy of Canada in Amman organized a luncheon seminar on 23rd February, 2011 at the Four Seasons hotel to raise awareness about Corporate Social Responsibility, presenting an overview of Canada’s CSR policies and how it translates into concrete actions in Jordan.
H.E.Mr. Mark Gwozdecky, Ambassador of Canada to Jordan and Iraq made welcoming notes to the guests, mentioning the importance of good CSR for Canada, which has one of the largest extractive industry in the world and expressing his hope that CSR would be widely adopted in Jordan and internationally.
During the seminar, BDC President and CEO Nayef Z. Stetieh spoke of the need to develop a CSR culture in Jordan, Canadian Embassy Commercial Counsellor, Stephane-Enric Beaulieu introduced Canada’s international CSR policy, and Arab Potash Corp’s General Manager Keith Thornton provided an overview of APC’s CSR strategy for Jordan.
The JOCABA President and Vice President, JOCABA’s board, as well as other invited businessmen listened to Mr Beaulieu as he gave a presentation on the importance of CSR for creating growth and developing business in an international environment.
He added that his country is much engaged in CSR policy development, which is promoted as a voluntary exercise, based on a strong business case, and includes an important ethical component. He also stressed the idea of capacity building among private and public enterprises for economic development.
