In www.hubpages.com I found a delightful website that gives you the opportunity to write, write and write; in fact to write till your heart’s content. The website has established itself as a community of writers from all over the world to put forward and exchange input in a pleasant interactive way where you frequently receive feedback and comments from the awesome hubbing community that has been built into the hundreds of thousands, from America, Europe, India, and different countries of the world.
As a recent Huber from Jordan, I have the ability to write articles from my base and residence in Amman about the issues that affect Jordan, the region and internationally.
These have so far spanned from politics, culture, books and lots and lots of stories with a travel angle. There is simply no end to original stories and writings once, you, me and them scratch our heads.
I have that quality writings on any topic, and from different backgrounds which help cut through cultural barriers and build bridges between different nations.
Jordan is famous for the diversity of the tourism it offers from the archaeological, historical, religious, cultural and natural and desert. There are unseen and unique places that once written for specified targeted audiences can do wonders for the tourism movement and interaction between different areas of the world. I for instance, have so far written on Sri Lanka, Amman, Jordan, Middle East, Germany and touches on the United States which will continue.
So I will say to myself happy hubbing!

Chef at Large, Michael Smith & Prince Mired Al Hussein of Jordan get cooking on the Food Channel tonight the help of the Petra Kitchen.

Food channel cook and author Michael Smith gets a taste of Jordan’s desert hospitality during this first episode of Chef at Large, Season VI, on the cable Food Channel. With the help of the Petra Kitchen – a cooking school/restaurant in Petra – Smith enjoys the creation and consumption of mansaf, a meal traditionally made for guests … one of whom will be Prince Mired Al Hussein of Jordan.

This according to an online article in TheStar.com which also informs us that:

Later, Smith and the prince travel by camel through the desert to Wadi Rum where a Bedouin tribe welcomes them with a meal of goat cooked in a barrel under the sand.

This is not the first time The Petra Kitchen has been featured on a cable network, as the Travel Channel also featured this fun respite last year as described in this online synopsis that includes both some video – and more importantly recipes – for how to make some of the yummy Arabic cuisine one learns to make there, hands on:

This month on TRAVEL 2007 we visit the PETRA KITCHEN, which gives visitors a great opportunity to learn more about Jordanian food. It’s a very hands on approach – you eat what you’ve prepared. Wendy Botham, the owner, was kind enough to pass on some of the most popular recipes to us …

Some of those recipes include (note, links open a new window):

Shourbat Freekeh – Green Wheat Soup

Fatoush – Cucumber and Tomato Salad

Salatat Khyar – Cucumber and Yoghurt Salad

Magloubet – Upside-Down

Here are what some other blogs are saying about the Petra Kitchen:

Jordan Jubilee – the Petra Kitchen is now open.

Great idea, but poor execution – TravelAdvisor

Off The Beaten Path: Petra Kitchen – VirtualTourist

When I went, I was incredibly tired and footsore from a day climbing all over Petra – so I didn’t get as “hands on” as other members in the group. That said, I wasn’t so fatigued that I didn’t enjoy the soup, mezza, salad, and Levant – nor the furnishings and the tableware which all crafted in Jordan and produced by the Iraq al Amir Women’s Cooperative (via the Queen Noor Al Hussein Foundation) and the aprons and table linens all hand-embroidered by the Jordan River Foundation (a Queen Rania Al-Abdullah initiative).

The regular price of JD 30/person includes the cuisine course, meal and all non-alcoholic beverages as well as take-home recipes for all dishes prepared that evening. For more information or to book your evening at The Petra Kitchen, contact:

An eclectic and well-dressed group of Ammanis joined Wonho Chung for an evening of variety show-like material. The show, presented by Shashati.TV, was a mix of stand up comedy, video clips, and cartoons produced by Jordanian media companies. Shashati.TV is a new website to help Arab filmmakers get in touch with each other. They are asking for content, good or bad content; Shashati.TV seems like it is trying to be the deviantArt of Arab film. A noble quest in my opinion.

It goes like this: you join the community by posting videos, leaving comments, joining conversations and learning about film related news. In the mean time, you meet new people and hopefully collaborate with others in your projects. It is an interesting concept, and a well-organized team.

The benefit to someone like myself, living outside of Jordan, is that the posted videos on Shashati.TV offer a number acts in English for those of us whom who’d like to sneak a peak at modern Jordanian and Arabic arts and culture, though this writer believes that performances on such as the Bedouin-techno dances transcend all barriers of language and geography.

The ‘Unfettered Camel’ provides a cultural tutorial on on ‘How to celebrate a wedding, Jordanian style‘ … here’s just a snip of it:

Jordanians like to celebrate in style, and their idea of a celebration in essence involves making a great deal of noise. The biggest celebration is, unsurprisingly, that of a wedding, and weddings involve a great deal of noisemaking, which comes in three forms: car horns, fireworks, and occasionally gunfire. On Friday, as I helped Waleed take the roof off his Jeep, we heard the distinct sound of gunshots. I wondered what that was about, and Waleed said it was probably just someone celebrating, probably a wedding (Getting married is one of the things Muslims are allowed to do on Fridays).

Of course, once you’re done reading the entire post over there, don’t forget to come back and read my earlier post entitled: Honeymooning Outside of the Box

There are a lot of misconceptions about the Arab culture and the Middle East. In response, Queen Rania of Jordan is leveraging the popularity of YouTube by setting up her own video blog (vlog) page whose aim is to break down stereotypes and engage in an international dialog; or in her own words:

“In a world where it is so easy to connect with one another, we still remain disconnected. There is a whole world of wonder out there that we cannot appreciate with stereotypes. So it is important for all of us to join forces, come together and try to bring down those misconceptions. And I have been surprised by some of the questions I have been asked about the Arab world and the Middle East. Do all Arabs hate Americans? Can Arab women work? Are there any YouTubers in Jordan?”

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFf897bUW2Y&autoplay=0 425 350]

For those whom may be surprised by the establishment of a royal vlogger, Queen Rania Al Abdullah is a major voice of the Hashemite Kingdom to the Jordanian and International community in establishing a greater undestanding and dialog between culture.

Which explains why she is using this channel to solicit questions about the Islamic and the Arabic world until August 12, 2008, where on International Youth Day Queen Rania will respond with answers that I personally think might surprise many U.S. readers.

Well actually, on a second visit to her video blog, I’m seeing she’s answering some of the questions right away – including video snips from some Americans in Jordan.
