At the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in historic Salt, Jordan, a handful of Christian media from North America ‘Voluntoured’ to join students at the school to make traditional handicrafts such as mosaics, rugs and belts. The center offers a wide range of vocational training courses, including ceramics, metallurgy, weaving, cooking and computer skills, to ensure the boys and girls have employable skills once they leave. Volunteers who visit the school can join in the activities to encourage and interact with the students.

Alex Allain, a senior Religious Studies major at Millsaps College in Jackson, spent five weeks working in and touring the West Bank region in the Middle East, a trip funded by The David McNair Fund for Christian Missions at Millsaps College. In a booth designed setting, posters of Petra were on display luring walkers over. Many of the passers-by didn’t know what to expect but would invite themselves to steal a look at the posters and the books that were scattered on the table. Obviously they knew the booth has something to do with Petra. That was tempting enough for any foreigner who is willing to cross miles and oceans just to visit the unique site. Preserving and protecting this site is the mission of the Petra National Trust.
